The Bombay high court on Monday issued a show cause notice to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner asking him why contempt action should not be initiated against him for failing to demolish an alleged illegal construction by the husband of Vile Parle’s Congress corporator, Binita Vora. The corporation had regularised the alleged illegal construction despite a court order.

The high court had in June 2016, while hearing a petition filed by Shiv Sena member Jitendra Janawale whose wife lost to Vora in the 2012 civic poll, directed the BMC to demolish the illegal construction allegedly done by Mehul Vora. Mr Mehul is the husband of Ms Binita and the construction was done at their residence, the petition said. Mr Janawale had sought action against Ms Vora and her husband.

Mr Janawale on Monday again moved the high court and his lawyer informed the division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Amjad Sayed that instead of demolishing the illegal structure, the corporation has regularised it.

Annoyed by this, the bench said it is issuing show cause notice to the BMC commissioner asking him why criminal and civil contempt action should not be initiated against him for failure to comply with court orders.
