The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon carry out the beautification of spaces below 24 major bridges and flyovers in the city. These spaces are currently used as parking lot or debris dumping ground. Civic chief Ajoy Mehta has directed the deputy municipal commissioners of all zones to prepare a beautification project of spaces below the flyovers.
Deputy municipal commissioner (gardens) Kishor Kshirsagar said, “The BMC has identified 24 major bridges and flyovers for the beautification project. Bridges at Vakola, Kala Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Kandivali, Goregaon, Airport, Amar Mahal, Lalbaug, J.J. Hospital etc will be beautified in six months at the cost of '16 crore.”
According to Mr Kshirsagar, the project involves creating greenery and setting up other amenities like walking tracks, sitting arrangement, benches, children’s playing equipment, illumination etc.
The spaces will be utilised for public amenities, said civic officials. The development comes in the wake of the BMC receiving several complaints from residents.
