The Central Railway (CR) has announced the 12 am to 6 am block for testing the conversion from Direct Current (DC) to Alternate Current (AC) on Saturday night to Sunday morning.

The long-awaited conversion will finally take place on the Harbour line and it won’t be the only section in the country saddled with DC soon. CR officials have said trains on the Harbour and the Trans-Harbour will be affected due to the test charging.

The last local from CST to Panvel will leave at 10.18 pm, last local from CST to Andheri will leave at 11.07 pm and the last local from Panvel to CST will leave at 9.59 pm. Similarly, on the Trans-Harbour the last local from Panvel to Thane will leave at 10.11 pm and the last local from Thane to Panvel will leave at 10.37 pm. The only reprieve for commuters will be that the Harbour line will not have a megablock on Sunday.

As a result of the block, the Harbour will see only 562 services out of 590 on Saturday and then 492 on Sunday. Similarly, the Trans-Harbour will see only 210 services out of 232 services and as few as 190 on Sunday.

The DC traction operates on 1,500 volts, while the AC works on 2,500 volts.
