State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Raosaheb Danve-Patil has directed all the party MLAs, MLCs and Members of Parliament to shoulder the responsibility of one taluka in drought-affected regions of the state, particularly the Marathwada region. In his directive to all the party’s elected representatives, he has asked them to ensure implementation of government’s drought relief measures till the monsoons arrive in the state.

On March 6, Mr Danve himself toured drought-hit areas of the Aurangabad and Jalna districts in Marathwada region.

He directed party cadre, legislators and elected representatives to convey the problems faced by the farmers and villagers to the government so as to ensure effective implementation of drought relief measures. All the MLAs, MLCs and Members of Parliament will undertake the first tour of the drought-affected regions in the state between March 9 and March 18.

The elected representatives will have to interact with the local administration, take stock of the drought relief measures, and interact with local villagers and local party workers for effective implementation of drought relief works.

The state BJP president stated that for the last three consecutive years Marathwada had been facing drought and that the government had been standing firmly behind the farmers. In order to ensure peoples’ participation in the government’s drought relief works, the party has taken the lead to ensure communication between the affected people and the government.

Mr Danve said that the party, through public contribution, has made available 35 Poclain machines which are being used to remove silt from water ponds, lakes, river beds and small farm ponds. These machines are being used for the Jalyukt Shivar programme too.
