BEST bus mows down 53-year-old man

A senior citizen was knocked down by a BEST bus on Tuesday morning and died on the spot. The police has arrested the bus driver and registered a case against him. While the body of the senior citizen was sent for autopsy.

According to the sources from Malad police station, BEST bus (MH –01 LA 638) of route number 629 from Malad station to Evershine nagar via Aanad Chauki, was cruising near Kasturba Talkies when it knocked down pedestrian Nimesh Ramanlal Desai (53) at about 8.45 am.

Desai, who was injured in his head and chest, started bleeding badly. Within moments he succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot, the police said. Desai was a resident of Bamanwada, Rambhag of Andheri. The arrested bus driver Manoj Gopal Kadam (34) is a resident of Jagdamba chawl of Malad west area.

In similar recent incidents, an eight-year-old girl, Ambika Murgan, was crushed under the wheels of a BEST bus near Liberty Garden in Malad (West) on January 30.

Earlier, on December 28, a BEST bus collided with biker Raju Atvar in Malad area, following which Atvar succumbed to his injuries a day later. Atvar (22), worked as a housekeeping staffer at Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle.

In a separate mishap on same day at Malad west, a youth was injured after his Swift car collided with a BEST bus.
