A day after bodies of a couple were discovered in what is a suspected suicide pact, police sources reveal that the cellphones of the woman and man are nowhere to be found in the house.
The bodies of Khyati Gohil and Vivek Gupta were found in their rented apartment in PMGP colony in Andheri (east). The couple, who were in a live-in relationship for three years, allegedly committed suicide by injecting themselves with a lethal medicine. The police is also awaiting the preliminary autopsy report to determine whether Khyati first murdered Vivek and then killed herself or the couple injected themselves at the same time.
In the suicide letter left behind by Khyati, the couple claims to have taken the extreme step because they were facing opposition from Vivek’s family for their relationship and future wedding plans. The police who till Saturday only knew that Vivek was from Haryana, said on Sunday that they had managed to trace his family.
“We have informed them about the incident and they are on their way to Mumbai. We will question them once they reach here,” said an officer. He added that police would ask the family how it felt about Vivek and Khyati’s relationship. “The letter states that Vivek’s family did not approve of their relationship. We will ask them about this and based on the findings of the questioning and the post mortem report decide whether an abetment of suicide case is applicable,” the source revealed.
Police also said that a preliminary search of the house had not revealed the couple’s cellphones. “We are still looking for them but it is surprising that they did not have their mobile phones on their person when they were in the house,” said an officer. He added that they were speaking to family and friends of the couple to find if they had confided in anybody about issues they werefacing.
“Khyati’s father told us that he did not know anything about his daughter being in a relationship with anybody. She would visit home often even though she had left the house,” said the officer.
