An absconding accused was nabbed in Surat thanks to his wife spotting a picture of him on her Facebook feed.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vinay Tibrewal. Shweta, his wife, had lodged a case against him in April 2015 for allegedly doing fraud using her bank account. Since then the police was searching for him, informed an official. The accused had moved the sessions court and high court for bail but it had been rejected.
A resident of Gokuldham society, Shweta in her complaint had told the police that she had been married to Vinay for 14 years. They have two children. She also said her husband used to assault her. A few years ago Tibrewal allegedly started torturing Shweta to get the documents of her property and later left her in October 2014, and did not give her any maintenance. Following this, Shweta filed a police complaint against Tibrewal, his father Sanjay Tibrewal and his mother Santosh Tibrewal. Tibrewal’s family first moved the sessions court and then the high court for bail. Santosh and Sanjay managed to get bail on medical grounds.
In the second half of 2015, Shweta came to know that Vinay had got a cash credit pass from her bank account worth '15 crore and which had interest of '4 crore on it. So, the bank issued a notice to Shweta and warned it would seal Vinay’s godown and house, where Shweta was residing. Shweta moved the high court over the issue and lodged a complaint against Vinay.
On July 13, Shweta noticed a picture of Vinay on her Facebook feed, which showed he was in a hotel in Surat to attend a wedding. She promptly informed the police and they alerted the Surat police.
On Thursday, the Surat police handed Vinay over to the Dindoshi police after arresting Vinay, a police official said. Vinay was produced in court and remanded him in police custody till July 19.
