Navi Mumbai police has arrested five accused in connection with last month's robbery of gold worth Rs 6 crore from a gold finance firm located in Seawoods. The police also retrieved 1.4kg out of the 23kg gold looted from one of the five accused who were arrested.

According to police, there are in all eight men who allegedly carried out the robbery, of which three are still on the run. The five arrested men have not yet given details of the manner in which they carried out the heist or the identity of a co-accused who is suspected to be the gang's kingpin.

Said a police source, “Till now, we have arrested five accused in the case but they are so stubborn that no one has revealed a single line about their role in the robbery or names of their accomplices. We are yet to arrest the kingpin of the group about whom we have received basic details and are working on several links to arrest him.”

Navi Mumbai police said that one of the arrested accused, Aappu Nadar, who was nabbed from Nashik, is a “history sheeter” suspected of having carried out several robberies in Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra in the past. Despite intense grilling, Nadar is yet to divulge details of other robberies he carried out.

In August this year, five men had made away with 23kg of gold worth around Rs 6 crore from a gold finance office in Navi Mumbai after threatening employees at gunpoint.
