In the fourth such incident this week, a police sub-inspector (PSI) was assaulted by three men when she tried to stop them from entering the sea during visarjan. The incident occurred on Friday night at the Ganesh visarjan festivities at Dadar Chowpatty.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 11.30 pm on Friday when the woman police officer was on patrol duty at Shivaji Park Chowpatty during visarjan. “Three men were creating a ruckus and were trying to venture deep into the waters. Seeing that they could endanger their lives, the PSI asked them to step out,” said a police source from the Shivaji Park police station.
The source identified the men as Santosh Gaudar, Vinodkumar Parshi and Gajanan Pakale, all residents of Wadala. “They continued to venture into the water despite repeated warnings and when the lady officer gave them a strict warning, they started arguing and abusing her,” he said.
The argument allegedly escalated and seeing the ruckus, three male constables intervened.
All the three men started arguing with the constables also and allegedly pushed the lady officer. Officials revealed that all three of them were drunk and had come with some friends for Ganpati visarjan. The name of the woman PSI has been withheld to protect her privacy.
