The final day of the FYJC online admission process saw around 2.3 lakh students from the state board and other boards in Mumbai register for the same till June 17. According to the office of the deputy director of education (DYDE), the approved and confirmed students include 17,000 from non-state board schools while the state board applications are 2.12 lakh. Genderwise, the number of male and female applicants are almost equal.
According to the statistics released by the DYDE office, the total number of students who applied for the FYJC online admission process and their applications were confirmed and approved were 2,29,609. Out of this 2,17,832 had filled confirmed and approved option forms. The number of applicants is excluding the students who applied for admission directly to the colleges under the management, minority and in-house quota.
Among the board-wise applications, the DYDE received confirmed and approved applications from 8,636 students from ICSE board and 5,649 students from CBSE board. The high number of applications from these students will make getting a seat in premier institutions difficult for state board students due to the high pass percentages scored by the non-state board students.
Gender-wise the DYDE received confirmed and approved applications from 1,18,190 men students and 1,06,249 applications from female students. “As compared to previous years the gap between the male and female student applications has reduced and it is a positive sign about the importance being given to education for female students in the city,” said an official from DYDE.
The zone wise breakup of applications show that though the Mumbai west zone has the highest number of institutions belonging to minority communities the number of applications is the highest. With 60,238 applications, Mumbai west zone leads the list followed by Mumbai north that has 39,900 applications.
The official from DYDE informed that the first merit list would be released on June 22 after including the seats that will be surrendered by the minority institutions. The admissions would start thereafter and students wanting to apply for improvement will be able to do so after the end of the first round of admissions.
