2 held for burgling jewellery workshop
The Mumbai police on Saturday arrested two people for allegedly burgling a jewellery workshop in Bhuleshwar area.
The Mumbai police on Saturday arrested two people for allegedly burgling a jewellery workshop in Bhuleshwar area. The accused were allegedly employees at the workshop and made off with jewellery worth more than Rs 14 lakh.
The incident occurred on May 25, in Saraf building at Bhoiwada and the VP Road police registered an offence. The accused had allegedly stolen nine necklaces and 30 pairs of earrings weighing 523 grams.
According to the officials, a preliminary probe revealed that three of the employees who would reside in the premises of the workshop were missing since the incident. “The complainant suspected these employees, who were identified as Saidulal Suratali Shaikh (23), Maidul Suratali Shaikh (28), and Sohel Kitabali Shaikh (19). Since they used to stay in the workshop too, we started looking for them,” said an officer.
He added CCTV footage also pointed to the three people. “After conducting a background check and a technical analysis we traced the suspects to Phatepur Musalman Pada Tal in Hugli, West Bengal. Following this we sent a police team to look into the same,” he said.
A team led by police sub-inspector Tukaram Parab and comprising P.C. Amol Jadhav and P.C. Bharate arrested two of the accused, identified as Shaidulal Shaikh and Maidul Shaikh from West Bengal.
The police has recovered seven necklaces and 30 pairs of earrings worth Rs 12,96,000 from the accused. The third accused, Sohel Shaikh, is still absconding and the police has launched a manhunt to arrest him and recover the remaining property.
The two arrested were booked under Sections 381 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and will be presented before a magistrate.
