The offline exams for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) (Main) will be held on Sunday April 3 wherein around 12.07 lakh students will be appearing in both the offline and online modes. While the offline exam is on April 3, the online exam will be held on April 9 and 10. The offline exam will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 129 cities across the country and abroad while the online exams will be held at 132 cities. The JEE Main scores will be accepted for admission by engineering institutes that include 67 institutes (31 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs) through the joint seat allocation procedure conducted by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).

The JEE Main will consist of two papers wherein paper I will comprise questions from physics, chemistry and mathematics. All questions will have equal weightage and candidates will have to mark one response for each question out of four responses given. One-fourth marks will be deducted for indicating incorrect response of each question. No marks will be deducted if no response is indicated for a question. The paper will have 90 objective type questions carrying 360 marks. Paper II will be of three parts which include mathematics, aptitude test and drawing test.

“There is generally a question from each of the chapters in physics, chemistry and mathematics. So, selective study is not advisable. Mathematics could have more questions from calculus and algebra. In physics, one can expect more questions from mechanics and electromagnetism and in chemistry, there could be more questions from physical and organic chemistry,” said Ramesh Batlish, FIITJEE expert.
