A 20-year-old youth was killed while another is fighting for his life after three youngsters fell off an overcrowded fast moving local train on the harbour line on Wednesday morning.
Nilesh Jaiswal, the deceased, Fulchand Morya (18) and Sumit Bobate (24) boarded the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-bound local at Mankhurd railway station, according to Vashi Government Railway Police.
“It’s true that they fell due to overcrowding and that they did not have space to get in and were hanging outside the train when they fell. But they should not have boarded the train in the first place and should have waited for the next one,” said senior police inspector Nitin Bobade of Vashi GRP.
The incident occurred at around 9.20 am while the train was running between Mankhurd and Govandi railway stations.
Morya sustained a serious head injury in a Sion hospital while Bobate fractured his leg. All three are Mankhurd residents and worked as labourers.
