Mumbai: The Shardashram Vidyamandir School in Dadar, which expelled 40 of its senior kindergarten students for not paying its hiked fees, has decided to take them back. Following negotiations between the school management and the affected parents, the school agreed to reduce the fee hike from Rs 10,000 to Rs 5,000.

However, the parents claim they are not in a position to even pay an additional Rs 5,000, as a result of which the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has agreed to pay the amount as donation to the school.

“We are paying Rs 5,000 per student, which means overall Rs 2 lakh will paid to the school in the form of donation,” said Sandeep Deshpande, general secretary and spokesperson of MNS. “Regarding the fees from next academic year 2018-19, the school has promised to conduct an ethical parents and teachers association (PTA) meeting before any declaration of the fees,” he added. On Thursday, the school management along with the PTA members agreed on a final fee amount of Rs 32,000 after lowering the hike.

The issue came to light when the students were barred from entering the school from July 18 for not paying the hiked fees. The school’s administration department had confirmed to The Asian Age that it needed to hike fees in order to pay to its faculty members and non-teaching staff, as the school is a private school.

Some furious parents contacted MNS for help, after which the school management agreed for a negotiation.
