Mumbai: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court on Friday sentenced a man to 14 years of imprisonment for raping a 6-year-old girl in 2016.

According to public prosecutor Geeta Sharma, the judge CA Nathani sentenced Kailash Yadav to 14-years of rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on him.

The prosecution case is that the complainant, mother of the victim and a resident of Powai, lodged a complaint with the Powai police that on April 9, 2014, her younger daughter, who was studying in standard I, was playing in front of their home with few other children on a holiday.

At around 3 pm the complainant went to the neighbouring terrace for drying washed clothes. That was when her son, a minor, came crying to her. He told her that the neighbour took her daughter inside his room.

Following this she rushed to the neighbour's house and knocked but the accused opened the door within five minutes. The lady asked the accused, identified as Kailash Yadav, why he had taken her daughter in his room and went back.

The complainant then called a friend to her house to confide with her daughter and ask her with regards to the situation. The victim then narrated the story saying that Yadav had given her Rs 1 to buy a toffee and then took her into his house and abused her.
