Mumbai: The Mumbai Central Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 69-year-old man who posed as a ticket checker and penalised ticket less commuters in a bid to make easy money, according to the police. The accused was apprehended after a railway protection force (RPF) constable spotted him and found him to be suspicious.  When he was detained, he refused to show them his identity and instead hurled abuses and assaulted the personnel.

“He would target the gullible passengers and ask for a ticket to them. When he would get an opportunity, he would fine them,” said D.B. Pawar, senior inspector of Mumbai Central GRP.

An on duty patrolling staff of RPF spotted the accused and kept a watch on him for sometime. When they saw that he was not displaying his metal badge, which is mandatory, they approached him to verify his identity. When officials sought for his identity card and badge, he lost his cool and started abusing them.

“He hurled abuses and got into a scuffle with one of the RPF staffers. They got him into their control and brought him to us and lodged an official complaint,” added Pawar.

The GRP registered a case under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 170 (personating a public servant), 419 (cheating by personation) and 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
