KEM doctors sell fruits, demand pay

KEM Hospital students extended support by selling fruit outside the campus for five hours.

Mumbai: Resident doctors across state have been protesting against the unpaid stipend issue in unique ways in their respective state and civic-run medical colleges.

On Thursday, the doctors from the civic-run KEM Medical College turned fruit sellers for a day in order to voice their demands. The monthly stipends paid to first year, second year and third year junior resident doctors are Rs 53,800, Rs 54,300 and Rs 54,800 respectively.

Junior doctors from five government colleges in Nagpur, Akola, Aura-ngabad, Ambejogai and Latur staged silent prot-ests earlier this week for delayed stipends.
