Mumbai: The Mumbai-Goa highway was shut Saturday due to a massive landslide at Parshuram Ghat near Ratnagiri district. An entire hill collapsed on the highway due to which a long queue of vehicles was seen on the highway since the afternoon. Along with Ratnagiri, rain lashed Raigad and Badlapur areas, too.

According to the police, the traffic on the Mumbai-Goa highway was also affected due to floods in the Jagbudi river in coastal Ratnagiri district following heavy rains. Many passengers were affected due to the traffic. The public works department (PWD) employees rushed to the Parshuram ghat to remove the debris of the hill. Before that, the Konkan railway came to a halt for a few hours, with three trains haulted at Kolad, Veer and Karanjadi stations for more than three hours.

“The Ghot river of Mangaon taluka also overflowed therefore the Ratnagiri-Dadar train was halted at Veer while the Diva-Sawantwadi local was stopped at Kolad. Managala Express was stopped at Karanjadi and Mandvi was stopped at the Roha taluka,” an official said. Passengers were stranded for more than three hours.

Torrential rains since Friday night triggered a flood-like situation in some parts of Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. An official said that the river water gushed onto the highway near Khed in Ratnagiri district Saturday morning.
