1 killed, 19 injured after fire breaks out in Goregaon bldg

Mumbai: One person died and 19 were injured in a major fire that broke out in the Goregaon's Technic Plus One building around 4.30 pm on Sunday. According to the fire officials, the fire erupted at the seventh floor of a 12-storey building. Rescue operations were on till late Sunday evening.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained, revealed the fire officials. The fire officials were carrying out the evacuation process till late evening on Sunday.

A level III fire call was recorded by the civic disaster management team at 5.03 pm.

“The fire officials reached the spot within 15 minutes after the fire call was made. The fire was doused immediately. The evacuation process is on, but there is problem of smoke clog since the building has glass facade,” said a senior fire official.

According to disaster cell, the smoke got logged from second floor to eighth floor of the glass facade building. He further added, “The cause of fire has not been figured out yet. The investigation will be done once the rescue operation is completed.”

The rescue operation was carried out with the aid of breathing sets.

According to the officials, a total of eight fire engines and six water tankers were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. The high-rise building has a basement, two podiums and nine floors above it.
