Mumbai: Mumbaikars thronged cinemas to watch the controversial film Padmaavat on the third day after its release regardless of the Karni Sena’s threats to disrupt screenings of the movie. In fact, patrons have said that the Sanjay Leela Bhansali historical epic is a treat for the eyes.

According to reports, the second day of the movie saw a big jump in footfall on account of the Republic Day holiday. However, theatres in the city said that the large numbers have nothing to do with the holiday or week day but with the film’s story, performance and visuals. “The number of people who had come yesterday (Friday) was quite high but we realised it today (Saturday). The turnout was not record-breaking as the number is equally high today too. From the early morning shows to the late night ones, everything is pre-booked,” said a staffer from the booking counter at Inox Theatre, Dadar.

Yogesh Mule, a spokesperson from Plaza Cinema in Dadar, said Padmaavat shows are running houseful since today morning. “More people have come to watch the movie as compared to yesterday,” he said.

He added that security was present inside the theatre during the screenings. Around six to seven male and female police constables have been placed in the auditorium.

A police force officer deployed for the protection of cine-goers, however, said that the masses are still fearful. “We have been deployed since the date of release and till now not a single problem has occurred. However, the people’s tensions are palpable.”

Stating that she “superliked” the movie, Shreya Pareek, student of HR college said, “It is just so good. I am planning to come and watch it again with my family. I’m sure they will love it too.”
