Mumbai: Making an emotional appeal to the middle class people of the city, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) star campaigner and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that his government is working for the middle class people, while the Opposition party is not mentioning anything about the middle class in its manifesto. Mr Modi said that the Congress party was saying that the middle class is selfish and greedy.  It is an insult of the middle class.

Addressing a joint public rally at Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) grounds, he said that upon his personal appeal from the rampart of Red fort, crores of people had given up their subsidy voluntarily, while also 40 lakh senior citizens had also left their senior citizen’s reservation subsidy.

“I am saying with pride that the higest blood donors, eye donors are from middle class families. Moreover, the middle class are also donating bodies for the study of medical students in the country. I want to thank them for it,” Mr Modi said.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, atten-ded the rally.

In his 49-minute speech, the BJP’s star campaigner PM Modi said that this election is not for choosing the government but to decide the direction of the country. “This election is not to choose Vikalp (alternative) but to take sankalp (determination). It is also not the election of vadon (promises) but of Irado (intentions). This election is time to empower the poor people of this country,” Mr Modi said.

“Dont waste your vote. Better to vote for a party that is coming to power and you can strengthen it with your vote,” Mr Modi said. “The only question now is if the BJP will better its own 2014 tally,” he added.

Mr Modi also claimed that the political pundits are predicting in their surveys that the BJP would get more than the majority figures (272), while the NDA would get more than 300 seats. The surveys are also predicting the Cong-ress party would get less than 50 seats. It is situation of one of the oldest party of the country.

Reminding the Congress regime to the people, Mr Modi said that the corruption, tax increase and inflation were given to the country by the Congress led government.

“Inflation which was growing at a rate of 10 per cent, now fell to 4 per cent. This is the first time in the latest three decades that the fastest growth and the lowest inflation has been observed in the country,” the PM further said.

Mr Modi also attacked the Congress for neglecting the police forces force and turning it into a “punching bag” while the party was in power. Mr Modi’s attack on the Oppo-sition party came in the backdrop BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur’s remarks about  police 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks martyr officer Hemant Karkare.

“Had it not been for the alertness of Mumbai Police, who have paid a heavy price including martyrdom, the city would have paid a heavier price due to terror activities,” he said.
