Fire engulfs two floors of 35-storeyed South Mumbai highrise

Mumbai: A fire broke out in the 32-storeyed high rise building, The Legend Towers, affecting two floors encompassing a duplex flat at Walkeshwar in South Mumbai on Monday, although there was no casualty. The fire was doused after two hours of fire-fighting operation. The civic disaster management reported a level II fire at 4:15 pm and it was doused at around 6:40 pm. The cause of the fire is yet to be identified by fire officials.

According to the fire officials, the fire broke out in the 18th floor of the building, and then it spread to the 17th floor. “When the fire broke out, fire alarms alerted the residents who quickly evacuated the floor through lift. The building was equipped with sprinklers so that society members switched on the machine to douse the fire,” said a fire official who was present at the spot. The fire fighting equipments reduced the job of the fire brigade who reached the spot within 15 minutes after fire. The official added that after site inspection, a notice would be sent to the owner of the apartment.

Four people including two maids, and two family members were on the floor when the incident happened. According to residents, family of Ackruti Builders resided on that floor.
