Till October 24, 542 people across India lost their lives due to swine flu. Fifty per cent of these deaths have been recorded in Maharashtra alone.

In response to the swine flu deaths in the state, the Maharashtra health ministry has swung into action, and prepared a protocol for the management of swine flu. The protocol, prepared by an expert committee, has drafted guidelines including part A – categories of H1N1 patients; part B – management of H1N1 infection in adults; and part C – paediatric guidelines for H1N1 infection management.

Dr Pradeep Awate, state surveillance officer, infectious diseases, said, “To curb this virus, we have come up with a prompt action.”
