Seasoned journalist, author Sadhu dies of heart failure

Mumbai: Veteran journalist and author Arun Sadhu (76) passed away in Mumbai on Monday at the civic-run Sion Hospital following  heart failure. Sadhu is survived by his wife Aruna, a social worker, and daughters Shefali and Suvarna. Sandhu’s kin decided to donate his body to the hospital.

Sadhu was suffering from a heart ailment since long and he was rushed to the civic-run Sion Hospital on Sunday afternoon in a critical condition and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Sadhu, who was put on ventilator, was unwell with a cardiomyopathy, and breathed his last at around 4.45 a.m. on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted expressing grief at the demise of the noted writer. He extended his “deepest condolences to his family and admirers.” While state education minister Vinod Tawde said, “Maharashtra grieves the profound loss of Arun Sadhu, who straddled the worlds of literature and journalism with equal elan. RIP, Arun ji,”

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “ He was a poet , writer and journalist, lots of famous book which he has written, through his writing he has contributed a lot, I offer my deep condolences.”

Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan and leading figures of the literary and media fraternity recalled his services to journalism and literature, and mourned his demise .

He won several accolades such as Sahitya Akademy Award for his literary works. He was elected as the president of All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in 2007.

A guiding star to several journalists and students of journalism, Sadhu also worked as the head of the mass communication department of Pune University for six years. Earlier, he worked with several national dailies including The Indian Express. He wrote in Marathi, Hindi and English.
 
He studied and essayed the rise of Shiv Sena, wrote on the Vietnam war and the Chinese revolution.

Apart from Sinhasan and Mumbai Dainik, some of his works are the other works include Kakasaheb Gadgil, Fidel Castro, Che Ani Kranti, Dragan Jaga Jhalyawar, Mukhawata, Simhasam, Mumbai Dinank, Trishanku, Tisri Kranti.
