Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is personally taking interest in the Jet Airways crisis, the state government said Tuesday. Labour minister Dr Sanjay Kute said in the Legislative Council that the government is talking to the Centre about the future of Jet Airways employees.

MLC Kiran Pawaskar raised the issue of Jet Airways and its employees in the Legislative Council. “How is a company shut down overnight? Is the government favouring any particular company?,” questioned Mr Pawaskar.

Showing concern for Jet Airways’ 22,500 employees, who are now jobless, he pointed out that a majority of these employees are from Mumbai and Maharashtra. He stressed that the Jet Airways’ employees should not suffer for their provident funds (PFs), and demanded an inquiry into the overnight closure of the airline.

In reply, Dr Kute said that the CM is personally looking into the matter. The state government can look into the employees’ problems but cannot take any decision about the company, he said. Mr Kute promised to continue talking to the Centre on the issue.
