Mumbai: West Indies cricketing legend Brian Lara (50) was admitted to the privately-run Global Hospital after he complained of chest pain Tuesday. Sources said that he underwent an angiography at the hospital.

In the afternoon of June 24, Mr Lara was rushed to the Parel-based private hospital after he complained of intense pain in the thoracic (chest) area.

He is currently under cardiologist Dr Pravin Kulkarni’ observation.

Mr Lara had suffered a heart attack a few years ago.  Mr Lara Tuesday said that he was “fine” and that he will be back in his hotel room tomorrow, allaying concerns of his countless fans hours after being admitted to the hospital.

“I know everyone is very concerned about what is happening. I may have just extended myself in the gym this morning. I was getting a pain in my chest and I just thought that it was best to see a doctor. I was taken to the hospital, pain continued obviously and a lot of tests were done,” said Mr Lara.

“I am just chilling in my hospital bed, watching England versus Australia... not a big fan of England, hopefully Australia can restrict England.... I am going to be alright. My phone is going non-stop so I am going to switch it off. Not that I would like to switch it off because I would like to speak to my family,” he said

Sources said that after a preliminary examination, he underwent an angiography. “We respect the patient’s privacy and do not wish to divulge any information,” said Dr Jigna Shrotriya, head medical services.

Besides his countless fans, Cricket West Indies wished him a speedy recovery.

“Our prayers and well wishes go out to former batsman and captain @BrianLara who has been hospitalized due to chest pains. On behalf of all of us at Cricket West Indies, we wish you a speedy recovery,” tweeted CWI.
