Mumbai: After an extended round of delays, the decks have finally been cleared by the state government authorities to officially take over the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) run-Bharat Ratna Late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (Tembha) Civic Hospital in Bhayandar. Expressing restrains to sustain the huge administrative expenses to run the medical institution, the civic administration had been requesting the government to take over the hospital. The move is sure to raise hopes of the 14 lakh plus population towards getting better medical facilities in the twin-city.

A deed-of-assignment (DoA) in this context was inked between the MBMC and the deputy director of Health Services (Thane) on Thursday. As per the government notification, guidelines had been chalked out in 2016 for the take-over, tagged with a time frame of six months to complete the process. The civic administration will have to spend Rs 5 crore towards setting up four operation theaters and ICU’s.
