Mumbai: Uttar Pradesh (UP) governor Ram Naik has denied reports of his contesting the general elections in 2019. There was a buzz that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran would return to active politics to contest from his old Lok Sabha seat of North Mumbai.

Meanwhile, sources said the present North Mumbai MP, Gopal Shetty, may not contest the next parliamentary elections as he is interested in standing for the Assembly elections.

Speaking at a gathering, Mr Naik said, “The question does not arise of me contesting the election.”
