Mumbai: The government is considering the option of staying the mega recruitment for 36,000 government posts or keeping 16 per cent posts vacant for the Maratha community amidst protests in the state.

After announcement of filling 72,000 posts in the state government in 2 years, unrest increased and organisations have been demanding a stay on the recruitment till the decision on reservation is finalised. Though Mr Fadnavis announced to fill 16 per cent posts over and above backlog after the decision of reservation, organisations are not yet convinced.

Government can’t give over and above 16 per cent reservations after the recruitment. Granting the stay on the recruitment or keeping 16 per cent seats vacant till decision on Maratha reservation is taken is the only way to subside the situation. The government is contemplating about their decision, sources said.

R.R. Patil foundation President Vinod Patil who is fighting legal battle in the high court and the Supreme court for the reservation demanded Mr Fadnavis to grant stay on the recruitment. Mr Fadnavis is under pressure to take a decision about the reservation and is considering various angles, senior officials said.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader and Industry minister Subhash Desai while supporting the demand of Maratha reservation cleared that, the issue is complicated and after decision, it should be confirmed in the court of law. Earlier government had taken the decision of reservation to the Maratha community, but court striked it down.
