Mumbai: A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act) court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his two stepdaughters. The incident happened at Lalbaug in Parel during 2016-17.

The prosecution’s case is that the husband of the complainant died in 2007 and she started working as housemaid. In 2008, she got acquainted with the accused, who used to work in a saloon in Lalbaug. Within a few months they started living together. Though they didn’t get married, they were living as husband and wife and the complainant’s two daughters, born in 2000 and 2002, used to call the accused father.

According to public prosecutor Geeta Kanojia, the complainant used to go to work around 5.30 am and return at 1.30 pm. On March 24, 2017 the younger daughter told her mother that their father was sexually assaulting her sister and her over the last few months.

The mother then spoke to elder daughter too and after confirmation she lodged a complaint with the local police station the same day and the accused was arrested. During medical examination, the elder daughter was found to be one-and-half months pregnant and younger daughter three months pregnant.

The DNA, and other medical tests and testimony of victims proved that the accused was raping his both the daughters and hence POCSO court judge Surekha Patil convicted and awarded a life sentence to the accused.
