Thane cops visit petrol pumps to check for cheating chips
The chips were used to dispense low quantities of fuel to consumers in Uttar Pradesh.
Mumbai: Thane police teams on Tuesday discreetly visited over a dozen local petrol pumps and kept a close eyes on their work to find out if there was any malpractice in play. This comes a day after the Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh police arrested a Dombivali electronics post-graduate, Vivek Shetey (43), who had allegedly supplied electronic ‘cheating’ chips to petrol pump owners in UP to rig their operations.
The chips were used to dispense low quantities of fuel to consumers in Uttar Pradesh.
The police is probing if Shetey sold the chips to local petrol pump owners and may seek his custody to interrogate him.
The investigation has revealed that nearly 80 per cent of petrol pumps in Uttar Pradesh (UP) were using rigged electronic chips to dispense lower quantities of fuel.
The special task force (STF) of UP police on Monday arrested two men for allegedly supplying ‘cheating’ chips to UP petrol pump owners.
The two accused identified have been identified as Vivek Shetey, 43 and Avinash Naik, 37. Shetey was arrested from Dombivali and is an electronics post-graduate who manufactured the chips at his workshop. He allegedly sold each chip for `50,000 to accused in UP.
