The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has decided to make the system more transparent.

To avoid complaints about bill charges, the MSEDCL has decided to give the date and timing of meter reading to the consumer.

The consumers can be present at the time of their meter reading and ensure that the reading is taken properly and accurately.

Consumers will get intimation on their mobile through SMS. The spokesperson from MSEDCL said that they have 2 crore and 50 lakh consumers in Maharashtra.

Nearly 2 crore consumers’ mobile numbers are registered with the MSEDCL.

Time slots for the meter reading are also decided by the MSEDCL. Meter readings will be taken from 8am to 12pm and 12pm to 5pm.

“Since August 2016, Mahavitaran has started taking the meter reading through the Mahavitaran mobile app. This made the billing process accurate to a large extent. But still, a few complaints were registered with the MSEDCL so we have decided to add the consumer in this procedure,” said an officer from MSEDCL.

From April, this facility will be available all over Maharashtra. The same pilot project has been implemented in six circles, including Thane and Kalyan.
