BVA chief says he won’t contest future polls

Mumbai: Two days before the counting of votes, Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) chief Hitendra Thakur, who is in the fray from Vasai seat, on Tuesday announced that he would not contest future polls.

While addressing the press in Palghar district,  he also made his stand clear that he is not quitting politics.

He will continue to work for people and will concentrate on changing the false perception being created by the Opposition about the Vasai-Virar belt.

During his press meet, he expressed confidence about the winning in the present Assembly election, which was held on October 21.

Mr Thakur has won Assembly election from the Vasai-Virar region on five occasions.  

Vasai-Virar belt falls under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). In the recent years, the region has witnessed a population boom.

In the recent Assembly election, Kshitij Thakur, son of Hitendra Thakur, has contested against Shiv Sena candidate and former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma from the Nallsopara assembly seat of Vasai-Virar region.

The BVA currently holds a majority in the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC), Vasai Taluka Panchayat Samiti and various Gram Panchayats in the region.

Single-phase polling for all the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra was held on October 21. Counting of votes will be taken up on October 24.
