Mumbai: The Mumbai Dabbawala Association is demanding a luggage cabin in the Mumbai metro and monorail rakes on the lines of local trains.

The dabbawalas said that the metro and monorail are good mode of transport to reach destinations which are away from railway station.

The dabbawalas commute in crowded local trains for delivering tiffins to long distance offices. However, the existing metro lines dont have luggage bogie. People are allowed to carry luggage of specific size, weight and length which makes it impossible for them to carry multiple tiffins.

“Metro and mono lines would spread all over Mumbai in the coming days, which will reduce the stress on local trains,” said Subhash Talekar, president, Mumbai Dabbawala Association.

The association has submitted their demand to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Department.

The authorities said that due to no technical provision the demand couldn’t be fullfilled at present and hence the suggestion would be considered in case of increase in number of Metro bogies, Mr Talekar added.
