Mumbai: The Blue Whale Challenge has started affecting other cities in Maharashtra apart from Mumbai. According to data received, Mumbai has seen the most complaints related to the Blue Whale Challenge (186), followed by Pune (65) and Nagpur (34).
However, the cyber police said that constant attempts are being made to keep netizens, especially students away from such games.
An officer from the state cyber police, who did not wished to be named, said, “The complaints about the Blue Whale Challenge have been pouring in not only from the state capital, but also other cities such as Pune, Ahmednagar, Nashik and Nagpur.
The police, however, do not have technological know-how to block the online game. It is believed that these games were being played out via one-to-one communication through encrypted/ secretive communication links — which makes it very difficult to identify, intercept and analyse the contents.”
The police has asked the parents to keep a keen eye on their children and to monitor every single Internet activity that he or she might get into. The police also said that the victims of these deadly online games are either battling depression or are in the dire need of attention, which pushes them to play these games in order to get an adrenaline rush.
