14 hurt in cylinder blast in Jogeshwari

Mumbai: Around 14 people, including two minors, were injured in a cylinder blast in a chawl in Jogeshwari (west) around 8.30 pm on Tuesday. The victims were rushed to the civic-run HBT Trauma Care Centre.

According to the fire brigade, the incident occurred at Hanuman Chawl, Behram Baug, Vikas Nagar. The blaze was extinguished at 9.15 pm after the Mumbai fire brigade, police and local ward staff rushed to the site. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

A relative of the cylinder blast victim, Saleem Shaikh, said, “The entire family had gone out for prayers when suddenly a relative informed us about the blast. My brother has sustained some minor injuries. The rest of us are all fine.”

A victim, on the condition of anonymity, recounted, “We were having dinner and getting ready for bed when suddenly a loud noise was heard. Shaken, we all came out of our rooms and stood on the road. None of our family was harmed in the blast.”
