Police books woman for spying on PS

Mumbai: A 35-year-old woman has been booked under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly recording various rooms at Rabale police station in Navi Mumbai using a spycam concealed in her sunglasses.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, after which the accused was arrested. According to the police, the accused had filed a right to information (RTI) plea with Rabale police and visited the police station in that connection.

According to a Rabale police officer, the woman identified as Sapna Amarsingh Sandhu was caught Tuesday morning while allegedly recording a video of the police station premises, including the duty-officer’s room and the crime record room, using a spycam concealed in her sunglasses.

The officer said, “The crime record room of a police station is designated as a prohibited place for photography or recording of any kind of video.The woman was roaming around and an officer grew suspicious of her movement.

She was confronted and during checking, it was found that a spycam was attached to her sunglasses.” The officer said that 17 video clips recorded in this manner were found with Ms Sandhu.

Ms Sandhu had filed a RTI plea with Rabale police and visited the station in the same connection. The officer said that the police was checking electronic equipment at Ms Sandhu’s house to ascertain if she had done such a thing before.

The officer said, “We have registered an offence against the person under sections 3 (if any person for any purpose approaches, inspects, passes over or is in the vicinity of, or enters, any prohibited place) and 7 (interfering with officers of the police or members of the armed forces of the union) of the Official Secrets Act, 1923.”
