Ex-Maharashtra Kesari winner held for murder

Pune: Pune Police arrested a former Maharashtra Kesari winner, Dattaratray Gaikwad, in connection with a murder, on Tuesday. According to the police, he along with seven others is accused of brutally murdering a man with sword and iron rods.

According to the police, Gaikwad, the 2003 Maharashtra Kesari, is among one of the eight accused in the murder of a man over property dispute.

Bandu Kondubhairi, police inspector, Loni Kalbhor, informed, “According to the complaint filed by Anjikya, the son of the deaceased, Shivaji Gaikwad (57), and accused had rifts over land deal. On Monday, Shivaji, was going to Syrum comapny, his workplace, via Vadakigoan road. His son Ajinkya was following him in a car to go to his farm. When he was about to turn to take the route to the farm, he could see a Scorpio car coming in high speed and could not see his father’s bike proceed. He thought that his bike had slipped. Which is why he followed him and saw eight people brutally beating his father with sword and iron rods. Ajinkya upon reaching to save his father, was threatened as well.”

“Later, Ajinkya started shouting attracting people around which caused for the accused to flee. Ajinkya carried his father to a nearby private hospital. But the doctor declared him dead upon arrival. We have arrested all of them under Indian Penal Code 302 for murder.”
