Explosion near shopping mall in Dahisar

Mumbai: The Kashimira police is probing a mysterious explosion that rocked a building near a mall Tuesday.

The police found traces of chemicals and recovered a fuse from the spot that was used to make a small explosive device, the police said.

The police said that the incident occurred near Dahisar toll plaza where a two-wheeler rider sustained burns.

The incident was reported by the biker following which, the investigators sprung into action and found that the explosion had occurred on the road where the material was dumped.

There is no clarity on who dumped the material there and what was the purpose behind procuring it. The police is questioning the eyewitnesses at the spot and gathering further details to establish the identities of the accused persons.

“The material is also used in the making of firecrackers but the ingredients and the device found at the spot are suspicious and the same is being probed,” said Yuvraj Kalkutge, spokesperson of Thane rural police.

Another officer of the Thane rural police said, “Our BDDS team and ATC team are also on the spot. Teams of the Mumbai and Thane Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) are also probing the incident. Samples of the remains from the site have been sent for forensic analysis.”
