Mumbai: In a bid to ease traffic during the Ganesh festival, the Central Railway (CR) will operate a special midnight train between CSMT and Kalyan for the next five days, beginning Tuesday midnight.

The train will depart from CSMT at 1.30 am and reach Kalyan at 3.00 am. Western Railway (WR), too, will run four pairs of special trains from Churchgate to Virar on the intervening night of August 23 and August 24, also known as Anant Chaturdashi, when Ganpati idols all over the city will be immersed. However, no train will run on the harbour line as of now. Railway activists said it was unfair on harbour line commuters.

Welcoming the decision of the CR to run a special train, Subhash Gupta, president of the Rail Yatri Parishad, said that WR too should run a late night special train.

Sunil Udasi, chief public relations officer CR, said, “The CR will run a special midnight suburban train from Wednesday night to clear the extra rush of passengers for the next five days.” The train will stop at all stations.”
