Mumbai: A watchman of a Kandivli society was arrested on Sunday for allegedly attacking a stray dog with acid.

The canine was later rescued by animal rights activists and admitted to a veterinary hospital. They also lodged an FIR against the watchman for his heinous crime.

Senior police inspector Nitin Pondkule of Kandivali police station said, “We have arrested the watchmen, Vishal Pal, under Section 429 and 11(1) of the Indian Penal Code.”

According to a veterinarian, the attack had damaged his private par-ts, legs and backside. In such cases, there are high chances of skin infections that could lead to serious ailments in long run, the veterinary added.

Darshan Soni, president of an NGO, Citizen’s Rights Protection Comm-ittee (C.R.P.C), which rescued the dog, said, “In my complaint, I have urged the police to find the source of the acid.”
