Govt schools celebrate ‘Swachh Hath’ Day

MUMBAI: On Monday, all the government, government-aided and the civic school students, parents, teachers and the officials celebrated ‘Swachh Hath’ day on the account of Global Hand washing Day. Lakh of students of all the grades in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) were taught and encouraged about the importance of clean hands for a healthy living.

The event was divided into two sessions – morning and afternoon in every city and suburban area schools. During the tenure, students and parents attended seminar hosted by experts where they were given insights about the illness caused due to lack of hand hygiene.

Prakash Charate, deputy education officer of BMC who managed the event said, “Around 7,89,000 students washed their hands in the entire city and suburban areas at the same time making it a revolutionary change for both the students and the parents. By this, we aim to encourage students to take up good habits.”

Similarly, Bhatia Hospital too held a session for the children of Door Step School at Reay Road.

Dr Rajeev Boudhankar, Bhatia Hospital CEO said, “The simple act of washing hands properly before eating food, after using the bathroom, after sneezing can lead to prevention of a number of illnesses. So, this activity is extremely important in our daily lives. We wanted children to understand why hand washing is so important.”
