Civic officials said the BMC has also planned to repair 1,105 project roads across the city in a phased manner after the withdrawal of monsoon.

In addition to the repair works, the BMC will undertake resurfacing of another 1,000 roads.

Mumbai: Soon after the monsoon comes to a close, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will take up repairs of over 1,000 road works across the city at an estimated cost of Rs 852 crore. The works include 1,668 roads covering 459.48 km and 112 junctions. The work will be carried out phase-wise.

In addition to this, the BMC will also undertake resurfacing of another 1,000 roads, which will be carried out as per their priority — listed as one, two and three. A senior civic official said priority one has been accorded to roads that have developed many potholes due to the recent heavy rainfall. Priority two has been given to roads with fewer craters while priority three has been accorded to roads whose conditions are deteriorating and need to be repaired.

Under priority one the BMC plans to take up five roads, under priority two 828 roads and under priority three 394 roads will be taken up for repair after the monsoon.

Civic officials said the BMC has also planned to repair 1,105 project roads across the city in a phased manner after the withdrawal of monsoon. The official date for the end of monsoon is September 30.

“We will not start repairing all the roads at the same time, as that would inconvenience citizens. These works will have a defect liability period. For project roads, it will be of three years, whereas for resurfacing works it will be two years. If potholes reappear during this period, it will be the responsibility of the contractor to repair them,” said an official.

Vinod Chithore, chief engineer (roads) said, “The BMC has completed 561 road works spanning 137.55 km by June this year. The tender process of 664 works of 182.38 km and 59 junctions is in the final stage.”
