Mumbai: The Bombay high court has refused to hear petition opposing implementation of 10 per cent reservation to open category in admission of post graduation in dental education. The court while rejecting the plea, advised the petitioners to approach the Supreme Court. There are many petitions pending before the Supreme Court on 10 per cent reservation allotted to poor people of open category.

A division bench of Justice Bhushan Gavai and Justice D.S. Naidu was hearing a petition filed by two students from Panvel and Mumbai. The petition stated that acc-ording to amendment in Article 103 of the Const-itution, the Central government has declared the 10 per cent reservation to economically backward people in open category.

The petition also pointed out that the state government had also decided to implement this decision from this year. However, admission in post graduation in dental education has started before the Central government’s decision, the petition stated further requesting the court not to apply 10 per cent reservation in post graduation of dental education at least this year.

Special public prosecutor Vijay Thorat told the court that many public interest litigations (PILs) have already been filed in the Supreme Court challenging amendment in the Article 103 of the Constitution.

Mr Thorat told the court not to hear petitions; hence the court refused to interfere in the said petition and rejected it.
