Mumbai: The University of Mumbai (MU) has sent a five-year perspective plan (2018-23) to the state education ministry on Monday where their proposal is to establish new 62 unaided colleges in various parts of Maharashtra. These will cater to courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, fine arts, law, etc for the students.

From the academic year 2018-19, MU plans to introduce more women’s colleges and night colleges especially in Mumbai region along with environmental friendly initiative like creating a green campus, water conservation projects through the new 62 colleges.

If the state education ministry accepts the proposal, Mumbai city will get more 5 new unaided colleges while the suburbs will get seven colleges, 11 for Thane region, five for Navi Mumbai, nine for Raigad, nine for Ratnagiri, five for Sindhudurg and eight in Palghar district.

Out of these, three is for management; two for pharmacy, three in bachelors in education and several are for fine arts. Others includes traditional arts, science and commerce colleges. MU has also sent a special request to start new Law colleges in South Bombay.

Looking at the growing number of working population of the women in Mumbai, MU may start new night and women colleges to encourage education for these women.

Last year, the varsity came up with vivid courses like artificial intelligence, film making, space science, life coaching, etc for the students while maintaining its traditional courses like social science, pure science and commerce. In the plan, MU plans to create a greener campus, which is ‘nestled in Nature’.
