Some pandals in suburbs are unauthorised, says BMC

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made a statement before the Bombay high court that there is no single unauthorised Ganpati pandal in the city at present, while clarifying that there are many unauthorised pandals in the suburbs.

BMC has also stated before the court that it has started taking action against illegal pandals and has so far demolished 20 such pandals.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice M.S. Sonak was hearing a PIL filed by Dr Mahesh Bedekar against illegal pandals in the city which were causing citizens a lot of distress. At the last hearing on Wednesday, the state told the bench that there existed around 349 illegal pandals in the city and its suburbs.
