Shiv Sena taunts BJP over one-day fast

Mumbai: Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ on Saturday poked fun at the “hypocritical” one-day fast of the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that it partners in the governments at the state and the Centre.

The fast that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah attended, to protest against the loss of parliament’s time to opposition protests, turned out to be a farce, says the editorial.

The Sena also said that the BJP is running away from its duty of governing. The BJP called the daylong fast of all its leaders at the Centre and in the states after Congress leaders sat on a fast to protest the government’s alleged failures to resolve key issues.

“The BJP cited the reason of parliament wash-out for its fast. But actually, eight days had passed after the session. So, if the BJP was really worried about the wash-out of the parliament session then it should have sat on the fast at Gandhi's statue on the last day of the session. But as Rahul Gandhi (Congress president) played his part of the fast drama, BJP too entered the race,” the editorial said.
