Mumbai: Days after Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal said that his party does not have money to contest upcoming state assembly elections, the AAP has started a fundraising campaign in Mumbai. Arvind Kejriwal’s party has claimed that Mumbai is one of the biggest fund providers for AAP even though it remains politically insignificant in the city. AAP is not contesting the BMC elections but is collecting funds for the Punjab and Goa polls.

Preeti Menon, spokesperson of AAP, said, “We are holding fundraising campaign in Mumbai, for the assembly elections in Goa and Punjab. Even though we will not contest BMC elections, Mumbai has always supported AAP. Several prominent people, including actor Gul Panag, attended the fundraiser.”

Menon added, “AAP is hopeful of gathering close to Rs 1 crore from Saturday’s event. However, till now party does not have an account of how much money has been collected. The donations are taking place online, and we are not collecting cash so that there is a record of all transactions.” AAP has also started a fundraising campaign in other cities including Delhi and Bengaluru.
