More property sealed over non-payment of tax

Four earlier-sealed properties were unsealed after their owners coughed-up their property tax dues.

In early March, seven properties were sealed for non-payment of property tax worth Rs 28 crore.

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified action against  property tax defaulters in the city. 

The civic body has sealed six properties for non-payment of  property tax to the tune of Rs 17.61 crore. However, four properties that were sealed earlier were later unsealed after their owners coughed-up  property tax dues.

Two under-construction properties on Dadar-Naigaon Road in F-south ward belonging to Bombay Dyeing were sealed for not paying property tax worth Rs 8.54 crore and Rs 4.45 crore. Another under-construction plot at Jerbai Wadia Road belonging to GM Group Creators was sealed for non-payment of property tax worth Rs 1.40 crore. Yet another plot at Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg where Mayur Builders is undertaking construction was also sealed for non-payment of property tax dues of Rs 6.35 lakh.

BMC officials also sealed some parts of Gokul Shopping Centre at Borivali for non-payment of property tax worth Rs 90.21 lakh. In Mulund west, two main entrances of Aristo Developers in Swapna Nagari area were sealed for non-payment of property tax of Rs 2.24 crore, said Devidas Kshirsagar, assistant municipal commissioner, assessment and collection.

Apart from these six properties, four other properties including three in F-south ward and one in R-central ward, were also sealed. However, after their owners paid property tax dues of Rs 1.22 crore, the seal was removed.

In the first week of March, the BMC had sealed seven  prope-rties for non-payment of property tax worth Rs 28 crore.
