Pune: A first-year engineering student has been arrested by the Pune police for allegedly killing a 15-year-old class 10 boy for hanging out with a girl whom the former was in love with — also a class 10 student. The deceased and the girl had on Monday appeared for the SSC examination.

Rohit Pradip Magikar, a student of Dr DY Patil Engineering College, Pimpri, on Monday night tried to slit the throat of 15-year-old Vedant Jayawant Bhosale, a student of Amruta Vidyalaya, Nigdi. Magikar suspected that Bhosale was having an affair with the girl.

Shankar Awatade, police inspector, Nigdi, said, “Vendant, who stays in Purnanagar, Nigdi, used to study with one of his friends who is a girl. Vedant studied with her till 10.30-11pm on Tuesday and then went to drop the girl who also stays in Purnanagar at her house. They were preparing for the exams.”

He added, “While Vedant was returning to his home, Magikar followed him and slit his throat with a knife near the old RTO office. He was lying there when somebody informed the police. We immediately reached the place and carried Vedant to a nearby hospital. However, he died on the way to the hospital.”

He added, “Rohit had unrequited love for the girl with whom Vedant would study. He was under impression that Vedant and the girl were having a love affair.”
